An Opportunity for Communities to Take Steps to Help Prevent Identity Fraud While Helping the Planet
Community Shred-it Events help neighborhoods across North America promote identity theft protection through safe and secure personal document destruction. There is no charge for community members to bring in their documents for shredding at this event. Shred-it branches hold their own events or partner with community groups to raise funds for various charitable causes.

In 2021, there were nearly 1.4 MILLION reports of identity theft received by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).1 This resulted in a loss of nearly $1.5 BILLION.

What to Bring to a Shred-it Event
Old Financial Documents
If not needed for taxes, anything with financial information should be destroyed.

Shipping Labels
Shipping labels can have personal information including names and addresses.

Photos
Photos can be stolen and used for fake identification

Duplicates If information is saved on a computer or another document, copies should be shredded.
